CarDesignTV is an independent international automotive design publication dedicated to exploring the ideas, creativity, technologies and decisions that shape the vehicles of today and tomorrow.
Founded in 2006 by international automotive designer Cornelis Steenstra, CarDesignTV approaches the automotive industry from a perspective that goes beyond conventional automotive news and product reviews. Our focus is not simply on what manufacturers introduce, but on why vehicles are designed the way they are, how they are developed, and whether new ideas genuinely contribute to the future of transportation.
Automotive design is much more than creating attractive shapes. It involves the complex relationship between aesthetics, engineering, ergonomics, technology, manufacturing, brand identity and commercial viability. Every successful vehicle represents a carefully balanced combination of these disciplines, and understanding that relationship is central to the editorial philosophy of CarDesignTV.
An Automotive Designer’s Perspective
CarDesignTV was established by Cornelis Steenstra, whose international automotive design career spans more than four decades, including work with Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Mazda, Porsche and numerous other established manufacturers, specialist vehicle companies and automotive startups.
Through his independent consultancy, Foresee Car Design, Steenstra has worked across concept design, production vehicle development, digital modeling, visualization and automotive design strategy. This extensive practical experience provides the foundation for CarDesignTV’s distinctive editorial perspective.
Rather than approaching vehicles exclusively as consumer products, CarDesignTV examines them as the result of creative, technical and commercial decisions. We consider the original design intentions, the compromises made during development and the extent to which the finished product delivers on its promises.
We appreciate exceptional automotive design wherever it originates, but we also believe that meaningful criticism and independent analysis are essential to progress.

CarDesignTV covers concept vehicles, production designs, emerging technologies, automotive design studios, manufacturing developments and the changing global automotive industry.
Particular attention is given to the transition toward electric and alternative propulsion, the influence of artificial intelligence, advances in digital design and engineering, and the evolving relationship between vehicles and their occupants.
We are equally interested in the business decisions behind the products. Automotive design does not exist in isolation. Investment strategies, manufacturing economics, international competition, changing customer expectations and government policies all influence which vehicles are developed and which ideas ultimately reach production.

Looking Beyond Established Conventions
The automotive industry is undergoing one of the most significant transformations in its history. Electrification, software-defined vehicles, autonomous technologies and artificial intelligence are creating opportunities to reconsider fundamental assumptions about personal transportation.
Yet technological change does not automatically result in better vehicles.
At CarDesignTV, we believe innovation should be evaluated by what it contributes to the experience of using a vehicle, its functionality, safety, efficiency, environmental responsibility and emotional appeal.
A new technology is not necessarily an improvement simply because it is new. Equally, established design conventions should not be preserved merely because they are familiar.
