GM calls the styling of the new Impala “the next evolution of Chevrolet’s design vocabulary” , so expect to see more of the lineup receive similar grill and front end treatments, like the updated Traverse sitting next to it on the show stage.   The grill lacks the painted center slat of recent Chevys, instead opting for two metal bars encased in a black surround.  The headlights are aligned with the grill creating a clean solid line at the leading edge of the hood, reminiscent of the Camaro.  The body side has a sweeping feature line that defines a pontoon rear fender.  It sits a bit lower than has been seen on other cars, and visually seems to thin rather than thicken the rear haunches. The rear is rather conservatively styled, with a simple chrome strip running between tapered taillights, an enlarged take on the rear theme of the Chevy Cruze.  There were two 60’s era impalas on hand to provide a nostalgic look at the heritage of the brand, but other than a few echoed shapes in the c pillar and rear quarter, there is not much that visually connects the new car to its ancestors.
